Recap:
I feel I have successfully referenced the following criteria:
How did you arrive at your management group and what is its structure - Through volunteering and voting as a whole year group. We chose to have the following teams: Marketing and PR, Fundraising and Merchandise, Catalogue. We also elected a group president, secretary and treasurer.
What is your role in the...
Marketing Meeting Today
I had a meeting with the marketing team today to decide how we are going to be able to promote ourselves online and to decide who to send invitations to.
I will be setting up a facebook group for the marketing team where we can share information about any free online advertising we may be able to get, and to find sites that advertise art exhibitions and degree shows.
I then gave each member of...

Now that our poster ,and therefore website addresses, are in public circulation- it is important for me to keep on top of them and make sure they look professional and provide the information that people may require.
On our wordpress site, we have weekly ‘interviews with the artists’ and I have just updated this site with our portraits and names.
Similar information is held on the facebook...
My latest work experience: →
I have just been told that I will be Mark Amerika’s assistant all next week in various film locations across the north west. I will be documenting and photographing the different areas in order to help him to decide which will be the most suitable locations for his film and I think I will be helping with the filming as well… I’m not really sure what the work experience fully...

After looking at different options for the catalogue, the group came to the decision that it was best to use a square format, as we needed something bigger than previous years because there are so many of us, but an A4 size just wouldn’t have looked professional enough.
If we had gone for the same layout as previous years, with each artist having 2 pages each, then we would have had to get...
How do you want your work to be represented within...
This is something I have given great consideration to recently.
The title of my dissertation was “The Role of the Gallery in a Society Shaped by Technology” and the conclusions I came to were that a physical gallery space isn’t necessarily the right environment for my work.
My work is about the need for people to connect and how we are achieving these connections more and more...
Outline Duties and what is expected of you:
As head of the marketing and advertising group, I have been responsible for overseeing and delegating tasks to the marketing team.
So far we have come up with a brand design for the degree show to provide us with a clear identity when advertising in jounals etc.
We have placed our ad in AN magazine and on their website and this is on the British University Artists website aswell.
The event is...

There are lots of good designs out there this year for degree show ads, but I think ours manages to hold its own due to its simplicity.

I have uploaded videos of my work from first year to now. It’s interesting (for me anyway) to be able to track my progress over the three years of this degree and how my ideas have developed. My concepts have generally stayed the same, but deciding how I want to get the meaning across to the viewer has changed and required constant experimentation and research as can be seen here.
There is still...

Involve
The Lancaster Involve day went really smoothly and we have recieved some fantastic feedback from the schools involved.
I think we opened the students eyes to the different possibilities that art can hold, and i know a number of them are intending to put the new techniques they learned in to practice in their GCSE’s.
The day was exhausting! And required constant energy on our part.
The...

This was a full day of workshops at the Storey Gallery in Lancaster and provided lots of food for thought! The day was run by Marcus Lilley and supported by Involve’s Enterprise Fund.
Marcus asked Suzy and me to present a short workshop on how best to use social networking tools such as Twitter, Twitpic, Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr… to name but a few! We ran two 30 minute sessions...

3rd Degree Show Meeting with Sarah
Today we had another degree show meeting with Sarah Casey.
The purpose was to bring Sarah and all the separate groups up to speed with where we are at.
It was my turn first with the marketing and promotions team.
We have researched the prices and dates for submitting our ad to AN magazine, Lancaster Guardian and Art Monthly.
Art Monthly is the only ad that we have to pay for from our...
Poster Designs
I’m having trouble uploading images today for some reason,
but we have new poster designs! One from Emma Bates, and one from Roz.
I’ll put them on here when I can. I have forwarded them to richard at the peter scott gallery and asked for his input.
They are both much bolder than the previous design and stand out a lot.
I have also provided Richard with my tumblr address and Ambers...

Here is the link to last years degree show ads.
My favourites include: Royal College of Art, University of Southampton, Nottingham Trent University as they are all relatively simple.
and I quite like University of East London and Oxford Brookes.
Goldsmiths ad is plain black and white- they can probably just rely on their reputation as there is minimal design in the ad!
We need to make a...

I find working with video extremely challenging as it’s new skill that I have only learnt in the last year or two, which can be a bit daunting on a degree course when surrounded by artists who have been refining their painting and drawing skills for years!
I have been working with the green screen this term which I have done before but this term it’s in a much less basic way, and involves me...

Degree Show Updates..
Today we had our 2nd group meeting with Sarah Casey to bring her up to speed on our degree show preparation. The main thing she was concerned about was the Involve day with school children. She wanted to double check eveything we had planned so far and see if she could think of anything that may be a potential problem which we hadn’t already covered. Of course, we have arranged everything...

Oops! Slight error, I had originally put LancasterFineArtDegreeShow2011
As the facebook link, but I only just realised this linked back to my own facebook profile and not the degree show page! So I have knocked the 2011 off the end (made it a bit long anyway) and now it’s all fine.
Thankfully realised this before our posters and ads went to print!!

here is a link to the photographs taken today, that will be used in the degree show catalogue.

We will also be putting these images on our flickr page and linking it to our wordpress page!
Exciting opportunities for funding
Amber and I had a meeting yesterday with Matt Windsor from LUSU to ask for advice with publicity etc.
We wanted to know how best to promote ourselves with local businesses and if there would be any resources for gaining free publicity etc.
However, Matt was more enthusiastic about how LUSU could help with further funding. He mentioned a number of options including the alumni fund.
Matt felt our...

My notes from the Nam June Paik Symposium:
The symposium began with a live satellite performance by Jeremy Bailey through Justin.tv. It was certainly an entertaining way to kick things off, and particularly relevant to Paik’s work and vision for combining performance and technology, as with his live satellite performance, “Good Morning Mr. Orwell”. Mike Stubbs, the Director and CEO of FACT felt Jeremy had indicated in his work that,...
